Trap of Love (Blight) Poem by Katherina Camilla Corteź
Trap of Love (Blight) by: Katherina Camilla Corteź
" I'm a ghost roaming around the casket of bones
I once thought we'd grow old, but you're not here to save me
We built a mansion of promises I stand here in its ruins
If this is a lesson, I hate to be the student
We were going in circles. I guess your love was confusing
I was always bad when it came to choosing
Now my decision is driving me lucid
Do you still believe in Cupid?
Of course not, loving you was stupid.
I hate to admit that you were right
I am the blight who should have stayed outta sight
Ignored all the truth and rebirth all the lies
Wanted to be like you, but who are you?
Is this the destiny that I am to choose
You want me to live out your broken dreams
But what about my inner dreams
Living in this world isn't as easy as it seems
All I have heard are the screams
The voices in my head want me to surrender
But my heart won't let me act out of blunder
Heart of a lion, my voice echoes like a thunder
Blazing off higher catastrophically, I am fire
Burning my own trail, I'm my own sire
Aura, too lit, my presence is required
My voice is my amplifier style, so slick call me live wire
Danger is near feel the shift in the atmosphere
Catastrophic quake feel the might of my shake
Flee the ship the kraken is awake
Calypso, you are a God I won't forsake
Your undying love, I won't break even though your heart is opaque
Baba Yaga, the danger is here
Behind every evil queen is a girl who never got saved from the heartbreak and pain that her beloved prince gave Some waited to be saved but the prince never came
But I rose higher, trap of love sneered by desire
I am danger, I am the fire
I am the tremor you must remember
You know I’m here, you whisper my name
The darkness of your consuming flame
Feel my rage, tremble before the sire
I am here above your desire
My aura is shocking most live wire
Slipping through the cracks of your shame
Ultra Violet remember my name
I am the shadow that rules the night
Baba Yaga is my inner fight
Watch the queen rise from the ashes of the blight
The phoenix who was born from the night
I am terror, tremble before my might
Sit back and watch me take flight
I am reaching above new heights
I am night fright, I am the trap of love ".
💔 Part 1: The Fall and Self-Recrimination (Stanza 1-2)
Heartbreak & Regret of a failed relationship ("mansion of promises," "casket of bones"), feeling like a "ghost." Acknowledging your own fault ("loving you was stupid," "I was always bad when it came to choosing").
Intergenerational Conflict/Identity Crisis was shown. The core issue shifts from the ex-lover to a parental/mentor figure ("You want me to live out your broken dreams"). The speaker struggles against a predetermined life, questioning their own identity ("who are you?") and asserting their struggle for authenticity ("what about my inner dreams").
Internal Battle happens next the speaker is fighting despair ("voices in my head want me to surrender") but is determined to overcome it ("my heart won't let me act out of blunder," "Heart of a lion").
🔥 Part 2: Rebirth and Power (Stanza 3)
This is the turning point. The speaker rejects victimhood and embraces a new, powerful, and slightly dangerous persona.
Self-Creation: They declare themselves "fire," "burning my own trail," and "my own sire" (creator/father). This is a declaration of complete independence and a refusal to be defined by others.
Confidence: Their self-worth is absolute ("my presence is required," "voice echoes like a thunder").
🌊 Part 3: Mythic Danger and Loyalty (Stanza 4-5)
The tone becomes apocalyptic and mythical, using powerful, dark folklore.
The Threat: The speaker identifies themselves as a terrifying force ("Catastrophic quake," "Kraken is awake"). They are the danger.
Fidelity Amidst Chaos: The mention of Calypso (a powerful, ancient sea goddess, often associated with a difficult but beautiful love) suggests a fierce, complex, and dark loyalty that remains despite the destruction.
The Ultimate Statement: The final couplet acts as the thesis for the entire piece, linking the speaker's current destructive power (the "evil queen") directly back to the original trauma ("the heartbreak and pain that her beloved prince gave").
